$5 Monday Meetup @ Living Room Theaters! Don Jon

Grab a drink and let's go see a movie! Bring friends and some good conversation to discuss the film, its characters, the production and more. The Living Room Theater is the location of our weekly Monday meetup. Most movies they play are independent, foreign, artistic with an occasional blockbuster.

We meet Monday evenings to take advantage of their $5 Merry Monday Movie special. They have weekday showings of all their movies in the 7:00 hour, and those are the showings we're shooting for. If you see something coming up there that you'd like to recommend as our Living Room movie of the week, message me or post it on the board by Wednesday the previous week!

See you at the movies!

Don Jon

Jon Martello (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is a strong, handsome, good old fashioned guy. His buddies call him Don Jon due to his ability to "pull" a different woman every weekend, but even the finest fling doesn't compare to the bliss he finds alone in front of the computer watching pornography. Barbara Sugarman (Scarlett Johansson) is a bright, beautiful, good old fashioned girl. Raised on romantic Hollywood movies, she's determined to find her Prince Charming and ride off into the sunset. Wrestling with good old fashioned expectations of the opposite sex, Jon and Barbara struggle against a media culture full of false fantasies to try and find true intimacy in this unexpected comedy written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The dialogue’s frank and much of what we see is explicit enough to make this a film exclusively for grown-ups. Luckily, the emotional places Gordon-Levitt takes his characters are pretty grown-up, too."
Jamie S. Rich - PORTLAND OREGONIAN

"It's a comedy that moves with a sense of purpose, as Gordon-Levitt does in the title role."
Stephanie Zacharek - VILLAGE VOICE

"A truly original character piece, hilariously funny and poignant, with enough humor and heart that more people will be able to relate to the characters than they'll care to admit."
Edward Douglas - COMINGSOON.NET

"Often light on its feet, bolstered by the reliable charms and writing chops of its leading man."
William Goss - FILM.COM

I'm also sorry I didn't get to actually meet anyone this time.

I'm sorry I couldn't stay for the discussion. I found it difficult to hear because of all the ambient noise. The Living Room itself actually sounded quieter but unfortunately, even though there weren't many people there, it was deemed too small. I apologize for leaving so abruptly, but I was too distracted to concentrate.

Good movie, good discussion (despite the noise at the Benson). My writeup here: http://martinteller.wordpress.com/2013/10/01/don-jon/

Yes! Psyched for this one. Bit of trivia: the movie premiered in festivals under the title "Don Jon's Addiction." The "Addiction" was dropped when purchased for distribution, presumably because it might imply a story about substance abuse.

Or it's easier to market shorter name films....

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
