$9 holiday Monday Meetup @ Living Room Theaters! Gloria (7pm)

Grab a drink and let's go see a movie! Bring friends and some good conversation to discuss the film, its characters, the production and more. The Living Room Theater is the location of our weekly Monday meetup. Most movies they play are independent, foreign, artistic with an occasional blockbuster.

We meet Monday evenings to take advantage of their $5 Merry Monday Movie special. It costs $9 on holidays. Monday is Presidents' Day. They have weekday showings of all their movies in the 7:00 hour, and those are the showings we're shooting for. If you see something coming up there that you'd like to recommend as our Living Room movie of the week, message me or post it on the board by Wednesday the previous week!

See you at the movies!

Gloria is a "woman of a certain age" but still feels young. Though lonely, she makes the best of her situation and fills her nights seeking love at social dance clubs for single adults. Her fragile happiness changes the day she meets Rodolfo. Their intense passion, to which Gloria gives her all, leaves her vacillating between hope and despair -- until she uncovers a new strength and realizes that, in her golden years, she can shine brighter than ever. Gloriais Chile's official entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards, and stars Paulina García in a tour de force performance that captured the Silver Bear Best Actress Award at this year's Berlin Film Festival.

There’s not a single false note here."

"Sebastián Lelio's fine film boasts subtly nuanced, plausible performances, none more so than Paulina García as the strong-willed, fun-loving but sometimes lonely protagonist."
Geoff Andrew - TIME OUT

"Gloria is an endlessly watchable creation—a wonderful example of an actress melting into a role, and a co-writer/director with almost superhuman levels of sensitivity and empathy for his characters."
Jessica Kiang - THE PLAYLIST

"Pitch-perfect, terrifically written."

I wouldn't recommend the movie (2 stars), but the discussion (five stars) was excellent.

Hi Gretchen- I was there for the film (feel the same way as you, would not recommend) but wasn't able to stay for the discussion. What did I miss?

For this Monday what about "The Pretty One" or "Gloria" .They both looked interesting in the previews. Pretty One however, does not start until 7:45 pm.

I just read the Ebert reviews on both films and looked at those on Rotten Tomatoes.

Of the films that we haven't seen as a group, I'd prefer "Sylvia". Other choices?
