July Potluck: Joint Event w/Slow Food Portland & The Quimby Colony

Come out and share the taste of Summer at Slow Food Portland's July meeting and potluck dinner. Our gardens are producing and there's lots of great stuff at the farmer's markets, so it's the ideal time to get together and share a meal and good company. This month we're going to meet up at Quimby Colony located at the old Roma Restaurant at 769 Congress Street.

In June, Karl Schatz had the privilege of taking part, along with 15 other Slow Food leaders from around the country, in a strategy session to lay the foundation for Slow Food USA's 2012 Food & Farm Bill Campaign. Karl reports that it was an extremely interesting and inspiring day-and-a-half of brainstorming, discussions and strategizing to set the stage for Slow Food's efforts to affect the most important piece of national agriculture legislation.

Program:

  • Tour of the Quimby Colony kitchen with a discussion of what's going on at Quimby Colony* and potential future collaborative opportunities for Slow Food Portland.
  • Potluck dinner
  • Presentation by Karl Schatz on Slow Food USA's initial national strategy session for the 2012 Food & Farm Bill Campaign
  • Discussion of this year's Slow Food Day of Action, planned for September 17, 2011.

*Quimby Colony is a non-profit urban Artist in Residence program located in Portland, Maine’s newly designated Historic Arts District. http://www.quimbycolony.org/culinary-arts/

Hope to see you there!
Best,
Karl

Met some acquaintances as well as some interesing new people - what a wonderful selection of food! Wasn't sure where to put compostable leftovers. The presentation was also interesting,
and Russ Libby was a good resource for additional info.

The potluck was fantastic! It was great to get an update on how Slow Food is taking an active role in the new Farm Bill, and appreciated the insights about the brainstorming session - I learned something. It's great to see collaborations like these between the Portland Permaculture group & other organizations.

Hey Everyone, Some of you are new to RSVPing to events on the permaculture site so this is just a general reminder that we try to bring our own "Potluck Kits" (dish/bowl/utensils/cup/napkin) to food-related events in an effort to have Zero Waste Events. I'll have a bucket for compostables as well.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

    Best,
    LisaF
