Join us and special guests Wendy Mott and her husband Pat from Parsonsfield Maine (where they live in their own hand-built cob house) for an introductory workshop on how to make and build with "cob."  Cob is one of the oldest natural building materials used by humans and, while there are various recipes, we will be focusing on the combination of soil, sand, clay, straw and water that is tried and true for our Maine climate.

Participants will go away with the ability to make a batch of cob and start experimenting on projects of their own or with others in the community.  Additional courses and/or field trips to Wendy's home are another option for those who wish to delve further into building with cob.

The lion's share of this session will be hands-on, building a low-garden bed border wall or "planter" for the workshop host.   We have a great location for this event!   Robbie and Leslie's studio (photo at right), "the site" as it's currently referred to, has been evolving over the past few years. begun with the focus of providing shelter and sanctuary, it has now grown into a place to test and practice natural building processes and to explore permaculture concepts. There is a timber frame structure at the center of the site, with gardens and outdoor spaces in various stages of development radiating out around it.

The workshop is limited to 12 people and the cost is $75 per person.  Rain date is the following day.  Coffee/Tea/Cold Drinks/Snack and handouts provided.  Lunch will be vegetarian potluck (please bring a dish to share and your own potluck kit of plate/bowl/cup/utensils/napkin).

This is a kid-friendly event!  Please wear clothes that can get muddy and Wendy recommends wearing mud boats for stomping cob.  Rain date is Sunday.

The was one of the most enjoyable, inspiring and educational workshops I've ever attended. I left feeling completely confident in my ability to build a simple cob structure. Simply wonderful!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
