Hi, I'm Molly! I grew up in small-town Maine on a subsistence farm, and recently moved to Portland for work. I love being outdoors as often as possible, and am seeking places to be earth-connected here in the "big city!"
I found this group by perusing the Meetup website.
Since I grew up on a farm, I'm incredibly interested in self-sufficiency farming. I have a lot of knowledge already about vegetable and fruit growing, as well as small scale livestock and beehive care, but there is always room for more knowledge! I would love to meet like-minded people with similar interests to engage in mutual knowledge share opportunities, either through some of the cool workshops this group offers, or through more one-on-one interactions.
Currently I am in a very urban environment. Previously I helped grow food on 25 acres of field, garden, and woodland, but now am tackling a much harder feat: successful container gardening! I have a small yard area with partial shade and I am practicing small-scale succession planting to try and get the most food out of my containers!
I do have a lot of skills that I could share, particularly with fruit and vegetable growing. I have experience with a wide variety of vegetables, and fruit trees are a passion of mine. I studied with an arborist for 3 years as her intern, and learned a lot about tree care and maintenance. Since then, I have taken what I learned from her and, with some external reading, transferred that knowledge more specifically into fruit tree care. I also have experience with high-bush blueberries, raspberries, and some wild edible foraging. I would love to learn more about raising bees (my family had to give up because several years ago our colonies kept collapsing), ways to deter harmful bugs in an organic way, and seed saving.
