Myoga Ginger - grow a ginger in Maine?

Well, looks like all 3 cultivars survived the winter. 'Dancing Crane' (aka 'Nakafu') and 'Silver Arrow' have joined 'While Feather' in sending their new shoots up out of the ground. Amazing to me to see true Zingibers growing in Maine with only the protection of a little mulch. We'll see how they do over the years...this was a pretty easy winter, but I've heard that they've taken -15F for one grower, hope they taste good! These are not grown for their rhizome, but for their edible shoots and flowers. Maybe there's a breeding project in the future for getting to Maine hardy true ginger (plants from the genus Zingiber) rhizomes?
