Described by the marketing team for the film version of the novel as a "powerful and inspiring epic drama [which] explores how the actions and consequences of individual lives impact one another throughout the past, the present and the future," and continues, "action, mystery and romance weave dramatically through the story as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and a single act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire
a revolution in the distant future."

Or if you prefer the opinion of an established author and not a corporate shill, A.S. Byatt said the book "entices [its] readers on to a rollercoaster, and at first they wonder if they want to get off. Then - at least in my case - they can't bear the journey to end."

Or maybe you just want to make your mind up yourself about this bestselling book which perhaps is not your usual airport novel. In which case you should come to the discussion!

Hey, I'm very sorry I didn't turn up - I had a bit of an action packed commute trying to rush over, which only made things worse - and by the time I had sorted things out, I got to Bond St station at about 7:45, I figured it was too late to make a decent attendance. Sorry again! Will def be there for the next one.

Yikes I didn't realise I was put on the Yes list! I've already got another engagement going but as I plan on leaving that around quarter to 7 I will still be able to join but I will probably be a little late, so apologies in advance!

Shame about that, but hopefully something else on our reading list will draw you to another discussion later this year!

Oh shame.. Yes RSVPs change often so hopefully see you guys there anyway.. Missed invite happened to me too with Saramago. Although still had some frozen chicken drumsticks (and the mild post-existentialist phase) to go through so worked out ok in the end. That's all sorted now so look forward to the next discussion ;-)

Agree with what Marina said! Sorry about not getting the invitation, I can only blame Meetup, though...

I've decided against attending this one. The other book group I attend meets a couple of days after this and I prefer to read that this time around (Updike's 'Rabbit Run'). Also I can see there is a waiting list so will change my RSVP. Looking forward to Nabokov, Shishkin and Dick later on.

    • Richard I.

Cheers Mike! Enjoy your other book, we'll see you at the Nabokov discussion, I hope!

I don't know if this is a good start - but I can't help NOT reading this book in chronological order - given the opportunity: so far I've read the first and the last chapter, and now I'm back to the second chapter... Nice... :)
