New Meeting: China, Tibet and the Olympics

From: Dyutiman D.
Sent on: Sunday, April 20, 2008 12:45 PM
Announcing a new meeting for New York City International Affairs Club!

What: China, Tibet and the Olympics

When: Tuesday, May 6, 7:30 PM

Meeting fee: USD1.00 per person

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meeting Description: The situation in Tibet is worsening, and will probably keep erupting before and during the Olympics. International criticism has had no effect on the Chinese hardliners, and in fact solidifying Chinese nationalism. The causes behind the frustration of the Tibetans are many, but in one recent article I read that it was primarily because of the economic genocide in Lasha, the economic invasion of the Han Chinese into Tibet, and the lack of any economic benefits accruing to the locals. Unfortunately, I can't locate the article now.

I don't have much time to organise the reading or discussion materials, but I understand that many of you are interested in this, so if you have any articles or reading material on this subject please EMAIL IT TO ME ([address removed]), and I can consolidate them and sent it out in one email.

I hope you can make it.
