This group is a necessary organization - nowhere else can you learn these survival skills in the city. Everyone should have a good understanding of what to do in a situation when the social safety net is not there to catch you. This group gives urban dwellers the opportunity to be exposed to these concepts. Attending this group's events and learning its lessons could for some of us be the difference between life and death!

Hunters or outdoor enthusiasts- if you want to build up your 'primitive skills' confidence with knowedgable people who dont judge, this is the place. By no means would I wish to spend a week lost in the woods with no supplies or gear, but if it ever happens I feel Ive at least got some teaching and skills to fall back upon. "Survivorman" Im not, but perhaps with what Ive learned so far the rangers might find me cold...but alive.

Just would like to add a few topics which would be of interests to a lot of us: how to look for sources of water, how to start a fire with primitive tools, how to make an impromptu shelter in the wild, how to make hunting tools like bow and arrows, knives and spears as well as fishing gear from materials found in the forests, how to distinquish bet. edible and poisonous plants as well as find those with medicinal value, basic ironworks using easy to find tools to make knives, etc., how to cure and tan hides after a hunt. In other words, how to survive with the natural materials found in the wild.

There is much to learn from all the different skills that people bring to the group. If you want to learn skills and share knowledge with other like minded people, then come on over. I'm looking forward to summer and the advanced tracking and other seminars offered.

It was a blast, getting outside -- whipping wind and all -- meeting some new folks, learning some new old skills.

    Kathy on Feb 8, 2009.

  • Primitive Skills

If you are interested in the topic at all, by all means come out to one of these. The instructors made the whole thing very approachable and enjoyable. I am basically a novice, and had a 4 year old in tow, and we had a blast. You do not need to be skilled, just willing to show up and have fun. A very welcoming group.

Primitive Skills are not so much primitive as they are the basic essentials to fully appreciating and utilizing the natural world around us. Surviving in the natural world on our own wits beats evolving into human hermit crabs unable to survive outside a technological shell.
