Sharpening Workshop

Over the course of the years we have been doing this, working with our tools, one of the questions that always pops up is....How do I sharpen this knife/hatchet/ax?

Well, this workshop is going to answer your questions. Covering topics like tool, steel types, angles and edge type we are going to cram in a lot of info in a very short order of time. Along with some the sharpening topics will be water stones, oil stones, hones and strops.

This will be a limited hands-on presentation, meaning if you have tools that need sharpened and you have sharpening stones, hones and strops, please bring them and learn with us. If you do not, feel free to bring the tool you may like sharpened but please understand you may not get that much hands on...it will depend on the availability of others in the class and what we can use for demonstration.

We have a location picked out and it is in the city, however at this time we are not presenting that information as we are putting together a required legal waiver for attendees.

If you are bring a sharp tool please follow all state and city laws in travelling with this, along with have a proper sheath. This may mean wrapping an ax head in a thick towel and tapping up. (Remember to bring the tape to re-wrap said ax head).

As soon as we straighten out the waiver we will be publishing the location.

I have limited the space to 25 students. This is both a teacher and a safety restriction. PLEASE, if can not in good faith attend do not RSVP just to hold the spot. If this is a popular as I believe it will be we will be doing it again.

peace,

Eric

It was okay. It was more informative and no hands on stuff. I brought my knives with me as with others and it was more like show and tell. We didn't do any hands on stuff which was why I wanted to go. Also, for a primitive skills class, the information although very complete and thorough, didn't apply to being in the bush. There also seemed to be a lot of preferential attention. I had questions that I had to ask, but the bubbly outspoken ones got their answers answered and had their knives sharpened. I wish the class was more of a hands on thing, where we used what we had and sharpened it right there. I still felt like I could have gotten the same info on youtube. Also, I didn't really care for the pumpstation tour. I wish we would have been warned that how the setup was before we got there. I just opened a door and walked through some empty rooms and saw people sitting there and had to ask if they were there for the class. It was a bit awkward.

Excellent workshop. The leader is very knowledgeable and good at sharing that knowledge. Nice group of participants.

Eric did an excellent job presenting the material. The " hands on" time was greatly appreciated.

My wife and I attended. We really appreciated Eric's knowledgeable presentation. Eric even demonstrated some techniques on my knives. My only criticism is that I wish it was more hands on. I know I have to practice but I wish I could have done more sharpening myself and had Eric make suggestions or corrections. But that is a small thing overall I was very pleased.
