Protecting Communications in the Cloud Data Storage Era

  • October 18, 2012 · 6:00 PM

Please join Dan Auerbach from the Electronic Frontier Foundation in exploring how to approach data protection with the proliferation of cloud-based communication.

Cryptography, developed to protect personal private messages (e.g. PGP, OTR), has so far been designed to be end-to-end; for it to work, you need an email or chat client running on your device. However, the swift and increasing adoption of cloud-based communication tools (e.g. Gmail, Facebook) means that we have to re-think our approach to cryptographically securing private communications. The browser must become the new tool for crypto, and javascript-based OTR will be the first technology to pave the way for an era in which browsers take crypto for cloud-based applications seriously.

Pizza, snacks, drinks and beer will be provided by TRUSTe. Don't forget to RSVP.
