**PLEASE READ THE EVENT DESCRIPTION BEFORE RSVPing TO THIS EVENT**

Many of you have asked about Level 1 certification, so here's your chance to get certified!

▀ Level 1 certification involves instruction and examination on:

-Use of basic climbing equipment

-Climbing knots

-Proper belay and climbing technique

-Proper falling technique

Level 1 certification is needed if you want to get Level 2 (lead-climbing) certification through the China Hong Kong Climbing and Mountaineering Union (the official climbing body in HK).

▀ Course cost: $280 (based on 20 students)

Please bring the course payment with you to the first session on February 27.

The course fees are based on CHKCMU guidelines and will go towards covering instructor and venue costs. (Note: $30 certification fee not included)

▀ The course will take place over three weeks, and involves 11 hours of instruction in total.

You must attend all 11 hours of the course to receive the certification.

Week 1:

Wednesday, February 27, 7-10 pm, Shun Lee Tsuen

We have a regular climb scheduled for this night.  If you're taking the Level 1 course, you will NOT be climbing--you'll be doing your theory session with Charles at the wall.

Weeks 2 & 3:

Sunday, March 3, 7-11 pm, East Kai Tak

Sunday, March 10, 6-10 pm, Lei Yue Mun

Practical sessions and examination.  You'll get your knot-tying, belay, fall and climbing practice in these sessions, and will also take the examination for Level 1 certification.

▀ We will provide you with the following equipment:

- Harness (if you don't have one)

- Ropes

- Please bring climbing shoes.

For those who asked about where to get a pair of rock boots:
Here in Hong Kong Mountaineering Training Centre they are offering 50% off for Five-Ten and Boreal (not available in all sizes).
Real nice stuff, I got two pairs myself yesterday!

Harness for me, too! Would you have suggestions where I can pick up a pair of climbing shoes for tomorrow? Thank you.

    February 26, 2013

    • Cynan

You don't need climbing shoes for tomorrow as the first class is theory only.

      1 · February 26, 2013

    • Margaret M.

Thanks, Cynan! Yes, you won't need climbing shoes until Sunday night. You can learn more about shoes and places to buy them at the climb tomorrow.

      And, harness, got it!

  • Johnathan C.

If we have our own gear is it cheaper?

    February 25, 2013

    • Margaret M.

Hi Johnathan, the course costs are based on paying the instructors to do the teaching, not on equipment. So the cost remains the same.

  • Paul R.

I finish work in central at 7pm on Wed 27th. I will be late to the theory session. Is this a problem?

    1 · February 18, 2013

    • Margaret M.

Hi Paul, it should be okay. Please do your best to get to the wall as soon as you can once you're off work.

      February 18, 2013

  • Tung N.

one question though, in the case of too little participants, will the cost increase accordingly?

    1 · February 18, 2013

    • Margaret M.

Hi Tung, yes, it may need to increase a little bit. If we only have 15 students, the cost will be $300 per person (based on instructor costs).

  • Anya K.

I would like to ask what is climbimg shoes exactly? Does it mean sport shoes?

    February 18, 2013

    • Margaret M.

Hi Anya, no, it means shoes designed specifically for climbing: http://en.wikipedia.o.... Climbing shoes make climbing easier and more comfortable. You can buy them from a few different shops in HK. Please take a look at the "Climbing" folder on the Discussions page--you can find more information on climbing gear there.
