Newcomers Cook Out

It’s official. The first ever Newcomers Cookout will happen on August 25th. As always, a good time is guaranteed and it shall all be going down on sites 77-80 (see map: http://www.riparks.com/pdfs/LincolnWoodsParkMap.pdf) of Lincoln Woods Park = winning.

What to bring

Good cookouts always have plenty of food, games and great people. I have made a few suggestions for what to get. If everyone can get at least two to three items, we should be in good shape. Please list what you plan on bringing so that we know what to plan for. In no particular order:

Stuff to grill – burgers, brats, chicken, bison. As long as it can be grilled, anything goes.

If you’re vegetarian, please let us know. We could set up a veggie grill for tofu, zucchini and veggies if necessary

Grilling supplies – lighter fluid, matches, charcoal, grilling tools. Spatulas etc.

Portable grills – If you own a portable grill or any cooking surface, please feel free to bring it along.

Sides – Dazzle everyone with your favorite side dishes. Potato salad, macaroni salad, regular salad. Surprise us !!!

Sundries – Paper Plates, Paper cups, condiments (ketchup, mustard), foil for grilling.

Hydration – Water, soda and the like are all good. The more, the better. Unfortunately, no alcoholic beverages are allowed. However, we could go out after. Ice, plenty of ice should be good.

Fun and games – Do you have any outdoor games? Bring them out as no cookout would be complete without them. Bocce, beanbags, kickball, badminton or anything else.

When you RSVP, please list what you will be bringing. If you’re already on the list, update the RSVP by your name to list what you’re bringing.

Is there anything I’ve missed? Got something to say?

Hi C, Laurie S. and everybody! I just joined Newcomers. Am I still welcome to go to today's cookout at Lincoln Woods? If so, what do you need me to bring?

    August 25, 2012

    • LaurieS

Hi Colleen! You are definitely welcome to come! Perhaps you could bring some sides and/or beverages?

Hey Guys! Thanks for coming to the Newcomer's Cook Out! We have 4 tables reserved (will fit 32-40 people comfortably if everyone is sitting down at the same time). If the numbers increase, and you have a camping chair or something, feel free to bring it. It is a woodsy area with little to no grass (from what I remember), so to sit on a blanket probably wouldn't cut it.

Bring something!! We ask that you say in the comments or RSVP section what you are planning on bringing so that everyone in the group can be aware of what's coming and what is still needed.

The sites are about 50 feet apart. We will be pulling the tables closer together. We will have access to 4 grills at the sites (but they are 50 feet apart and can't be moved). It would be awesome if someone could bring a couple charcoal grills, if people have them. Please let C or I know if you have a grill we can use. It would also be great if you have grilling tools or other neat things to aid in the cook out.

Do you need a gas grill/stove?

      August 23, 2012

    • LaurieS

If you have one that is easily transported and you are willing to bring it, that would be great!

    mystery Indian food!

Parking: I am guessing 10 or so cars will fit at this site. If it's full, you'll have to find other parking. There should be parking for up to 30 cars within 3 min walking distance. Alcohol is illegal in Lincoln Woods, but if you are discreet (pour beer into red solo cup and behave like an adult) I can't imagine it being a big deal. If I am wrong, let me know, I'm from Nebraska and that's how we would do it.

Feel free to come and go during the time window (unless you are bringing something vital to the event, like charcoal, vital grilling stuff or plates.) I imagine we will be snacking, playing frisbee, chatting, exploring the area through out the cook out.

Around 3 is when we will be pulling the tables together and starting to set up. If you would like to help move tables and set up grills, let us know, we would love your help!

Sorry but I need to cancel. I am still a newbie and after signing up I found out about another meet up group that are going to a Celtic Festival.

I don't have a printer to print a ticket. Also I now live in Johnston not Cumberland.

If it is raining or an extremely good chance of rain we will probably cancel. But if it's just a few drops throughout the day, we will probably still do it. :)
