Puppy Mill Awareness Day (The Family Puppy)

Genesee Valley Center (map)

Selected By: Pam

Read our Press Release! I will post the media coverage here too.

Join us in Flint for this year’s national Puppy Mill Awareness Day from 12-3 p.m. at the Genesee Valley Mall! The Puppy Mill Awareness Meetup is hosting a peaceful rally against our newest pet store.

The Family Puppy/The Family of Pets is Michigan’s largest puppy selling chain that hides behind cute puppies. Michigan already has enough puppy selling stores and we will not allow more to open! We will not allow The Family Puppy to come into town and rip off the public with overpriced mix breeds. Genesee County is saying no to puppy selling stores! The Puppy Mill Awareness Meetup has formally asked this chain several times to stop selling puppies. The owner declined to change his operations, refers to the kennel dogs as “breeding stock” and has a history of working with horrible breeders and brokers. Puppies are not products and the “breeding stock” deserves better.

Let’s send a strong message to the owners that we won’t buy their lies.

Please cross post and forward to friends and families.

Signs: We will have ‘some’ home-made signs to hold. Please reserve one to ensure we have enough by emailing me (Pam). I also have large plastic blank boards you can use. If you wish to make your own sign, here are some suggestions. Remember all signs have to be factual.

"Boycott The Family Puppy"
"Find the True Cost of those Puppies"
"Ask The Family Puppy about the puppies mothers"
"The Family Puppy = Puppy Mills"
"Go Humane, or get out of Business - The Family Puppy"
“Adopt, Don't Shop"
"Beware of the Pet Store"

Contact: Pam [masked]

Parking:
David's Bridal back parking lot
4340 B Miller, Flint, MI 48507

General Reminders:
1) Do not go into the store, before, during or after the rally. If you choose to protest, you can no longer go into the store to check anything out on any day.
2) Do not walk or park in the mall lot. We have to stay on public property. If you cut across the mall property, keep your sign down and make a straight line approach. For this rally we will not need to cut across the mall property. There easement is approximately 20 feet from the road.
3) Do not stand too close to the entrance.
4) Do not block the view of vehicles pulling out of the mall.
5) Do not interrupt the flow of traffic. If cars stop, make sure they pull around to our parking area and keep moving.
6) Return shared signs to the rally lead.
7) If it looks like rain, find some clear plastic bags for your sign. I use clear drop cloth from Home Depot.
8) You may bring your dog, but we do not recommend having animals at rallies that are near traffic and subject to potentially bad weather.

I have 17 plastic covered signs and 8 banners. I am holding a sign for (Becki & Guest, Stacy, Debbie & Guest, and Jill). With 70 rsvps and unknowns coming, I urge you to bring your own sign if you can. I am keeping them available for those who I want to come but don't have time to make a sign. (no excuses for not coming :)

It looks like the rain should end around 1PM.. so come prepared. We never cancel for rain. If there is lightening, we will wait in our cars..but we are not cancelling. All the signs are protected.

The breeding dogs living in continual confinement were heard. I was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm from the Flint campaign crew. The Flint Journal, The View and Channel 25 covered the story! It doesn't get much better than that :) Friends of Genesee County Animal Shelter were well represented and I was happy to see sooo many new local supporters. Thank you all for making cool signs and making a difference...

We had a great turn out for this protest with lots of energy and enthusiasm. We also got lots of great people driving by honking their horns and giving us a thumbs up! I wish we could have this big of a turn out everytime!!!!
