Meet the House of Representatives (LOBBY)

**6/6/12 Changed the Meeting Time from 1:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.**

Representative Eileen Kowall (District 44-White Lake) will be introducing our group and the local area shelters to the Chairman of the House of Representatives and other representatives in Lansing on June 13th between 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.!

Plan to sport your anti-puppy mill flair (t-shirt and buttons) and stand on the balcony overlooking the session. We will have a gorgeous view.

We will be reminding lawmakers that we want to see the Puppy Protection Act passed - at minimum a hearing before the summer break! We are also lobbying for the Pet Lemon Law (but that is on the Senate side right now). Here is a link to our new legislative page.

Carpooling: Once RSVPs are in, we can try too coordinate carpooling through the Meetup Event comments. I will be coming from Clarkston and will have room for four others.

Add On Appointments: If you have not met with your representative or senator one-on-one, this may be a good time to set up an appointment. You can find your representative and senator and download Fact Sheets from our website.

Parking: There are six parking ramps within three blocks of the Capital. See our Pups Parade event for a map.

Meeting Location: Enter the Capital Building from the front lawn (Capitol Street) and use the doors under the steps on the ground level. We will gather near the front desk at 1:00 for t-shirts and buttons. Everyone should be ready to go at 1:45 to head up to the 3rd floor balcony. If you are running late, just ask the front desk for directions to the balcony.

Introduction Time: We will not have a set time for the introduction. We are asked to be there between 2:00 – 3:00 and wait until there is a opportunity to be introduced.

House TV: If you can’t make it, you can still watch on The House TV!

I certainly hope you can make it in person and give Michigan Dogs a voice in Lansing.

It was great to lobby for the Puppy Protection Act bill and go to the Capital!

Kristin, I just moved to Grand Rapids. Is Howell on the way? I have a 7seater van and we could definitely car pool.

Please also note that there is a lot of road construction on W. Allegan, west of Capitol Ave., so please plan accordingly.

Several people asked about what we should wear. I will be wearing dress slacks and our new PMA Jersey t-shirt. It would look impressive if we all wore our logo shirts, but I don’t want to pressure anyone into spending $20, so anyone can “borrow” one for the event (just wear it over your own shirt). You don’t really need to dress up, but I would avoid anything too casual like shorts and flip flops…. If our shirts do not come in for some reason, bring your other anti puppy mill shirts.

    Dog suits?? For what?

How many Dog Suits can we find? Ingham County AC has one. HVHS has one. Any others we can get our paws on?

Michelle contacted me stating she is looking for a ride from Saginaw. She is visually impaired and can not drive.

Adwena, unfortunately it is a workday for many and a long drive for most of our SE members. We are recruiting the local area shelters and dog groups in Lansing to come (easier logistically), but I would still like to see as many PMA members as possible.

Wow, I thought this meetup event would be over flowing with yes rsvp's! This is such an easy one, no confrontations, no pressure from the public. Its just showing up to say you care about something. Anyone able to carpool from Macomb County?
