I apologize for not sending out monthly newsletters. We have been busy kicking off the new Westland Dog Food Co campaign and finishing up our Kennel Study (pending publication). I am sure you don’t need newsletters to see we haven’t slowed down!
This weekend we spent 13 hours leafleting at the Plymouth Ice Festival! “Check out our smart and cool shelter dog doing his homework. You don’t need to go to the pet store for a great dog. Here is some more information”. This approach went over really well. Thank you Cathy, Jeanie, Sandi, Andrea, Sunday and Olivia for taking a shift. And thank everyone else who donated. We collected $200!
Although our Family Puppy protests are postponed for the winter, we are still actively putting pressure on the store through the Patch’s Dog Photo Contest comments. Thank you for responding to the Action Alert last week. We met several people who read through them at the Ice Festival and the store owner is admitting to a lot of my findings: He continues to work with brokers, his largest kennel has 130 adult dogs, and our photos are from his kennels. It is very disappointing that news outlets like this are giving free advertising to a store that already makes a lot of money while charging shelters for advertising space! The Humane Society of Huron Valley holds birthday parties at their shelter, why not have the grand prize involve going to a beautiful shelter?
Our Petland Novi campaign is also still going strong even though we are not protesting this month. We started negotiations with the owner who is feeling the pressure of our 7 months of continued protests. We are asking all rescues and shelters to stand by our BOYCOTT until these negotiations are over and we have ended our campaign.
Ready to get involved?
Sign up for a Westland Dog Food Co protest. They are held every Saturday 12-3.
Sign up for Humane Lobby Day! We have two bills pending (Pet Lemon Law and Puppy Protection Act). We will need everyone to help get these bills passed.
