Outreach at VegFest

I was giddy as a school girl meeting Wayne Pacelle at VegFest yesterday! Olivia joined me in her peapod costume to ensure I behaved and didn’t embarrass myself. It didn't work.

And thank you Olivia for wearing the costume for so long at our booth. We attracted many many visitors and reached a lot of families who didn’t know about pet stores in our local area.

We passed out a lot of flyers for our Pups Parade in Lansing too! This is the type of event anyone and everyone should attend. Doesn’t everyone enjoy walking their dog?

Again, two more families came forward with sick dog cases that were never reported.

1) We met a woman who cared for a dog purchased at the Summit Place Mall from The Family of Pets (now The Family Puppy) with ongoing health problems for 10 years- stomach problems, allergies and skin conditions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3d_sa9R9xeg

2) We met a woman who purchased TWO parvo puppies from Petland Novi in 2007 – both died! The store quickly tried to refund her money to ensure she didn’t file complaints. They even rushed the refund up to her place of work and hand delivered it. She not only suffered heartache after watching two puppies die, she couldn't have another dog for a year to ensure her house was free of the virus! So what did the store do to ensure the virus did nt' spread? Did they close down and quarantine the other animals? Not likely...business as usual.

A woman who picks up the used needles from Healthy Paws next door to Westland Dog Food Co told us the vet moved because they didn’t want to have anything to do with the store and are posting messages on Craigslist stating they are not working with Westland Dog Food Co. They just moved down the road to a new location. Hopefully they will take their sign down. Less vet apts means less customers for Westland Dog Food Co!

Overall the event was a ton of fun with all the food samples and interesting booths. It really was a huge turn out – bigger and bigger every year!
