Senator Casperson, the Chair of The Natural Resources, Environment
and Great Lakes, is racing SB 288 thru just like he did at the end of
last year adding the wolfs to the game list and allowing young bears to come
into contact with families and sentencing them to a
life of captivity. Casperson is no friend to animals.
Humane Lobby Day will take place in Lansing in a couple of days (Tuesday, April 16). Even if you have not RSVPd, you can still step up at a crucial time for wildlife. We will not only be lobbying for the Puppy Protection Act (SB 117/118) and the stronger penalties for animal abusers (SB 285), but a focus will be placed on roadblocking a new bill SB288 – which would take away our rights to vote on wildlife issues like the wolves!
All the petition signatures will be thrown out!!!! It is a power grab.
SB 288 would allow the Natural Resources Commission (formed by appointed, UNelected officials) to name any animal a game species and would only allow the legislature to remove an animal from the game species list. It also has attached a 1 million dollars appropriations token that makes it impossible to fight via a referendum.
Whether you can attend lobby day or not, PLEASE CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS ASAP AND ASK THEM TO VOTE NO ON SB 288! You only need to give them your name and address, let them know you are a constituent and ask them to OPPOSE SB 288 because it takes away Michigan people's right to protect wildlife. Here's the link:
