Did you miss Humane Lobby Day this year?

Meetup Members,

I would like to thank everyone who attended our Michigan Humane Lobby Day this month! Overall, it was a big success with standing room only! There were many new citizen lobbyists and a growing collection of seasoned veterans who helped guide other constituents. With area leaders and color-coded nametags, everyone was well connected and informed.

Check out my photo collection. If you attended, there is likely a photo or two of you that you can download and share on your FB – hopefully, encourage others to participate at the Capital next year.

For those that could not participate, you can still make a difference as we have a hearing coming up on Tuesday June 3rd for the Large-scale Breeder Registration Bill (SB560/HB5095)! HB5095 his being heard by the Regulatory Reform Committee (see prior action alert).

This email is to fill you in on the bills we focused on and discussed with our representatives during Humane Lobby Day - AND what you can still do to promote humane legislation in our state.

We focused on the following four legislative items that could be up for a vote in the House Chambers. Some of them have already passed the Senate. Below is our cheat sheet. You can find links to the full Fact Sheets at the end of this email.

If you were unable to meet with you during lobby day or did not attend, we are asking animal advocates to call your representative and ask them to support or oppose (as designated) these bills.

Follow this link to find your representative’s contact information.

Links to our Fact Sheets
SB 560/HB595, “The Large Scale Commercial Dog Breeder” Act
SB 354, “Grant’s Bill” to End Gas Chamber Euthanasia
Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management” Initiative
SB 285/286, Increase Penalties for Cruelty to Companion Animals

Our hope, of course, is to continue to build a commanding voice for animals at the state level so that an increasing number of humane bills will be signed into law, and that bills that are bad for animals can be defeated. This means that we must stay active in our communications with legislators – and each other – throughout the year. I will kept you informed when specific action is needed on the bills we focused on.
