Lab meetup - Salt Stack

The purpose of this meetup is to get started with Salt Stack through a hands-on experience. We will provide some drinks - BYOB if you want anything special. No food this time so bring your own or come full (not the swedish word ;-)

Limit for this meetup is 18 people. If we get a overwhelming response there may be a possibility to reorganize some and squeeze in more people.

Proposed agenda

  • Short intro by Nicolas Lara.
  • Bootstrapping the machines we are going to use.
  • Do some updating of the machines.
  • Install some python software we need later.
  • Deploy a small Python based website.
  • Try other things we come up with.

Unlikely that I'll make it in time. :( Sorry for the late cancellation.

Sorry for the change in venue, this was due to a missing 8, seems like it escaped some where on the way to meetup.
so 80 numbers up the street :)

Sorry, need to curate some fever... Hope that someone in the waitlist still can make it!

I won't be able to make it

Too bad I ended up on the waiting list. I will definitly have some input on Salt if I would get a spot. I am working full time on a coding assignment where Salt is centerpoint.

Yes that would be fun. Are you going to prepare a talk, @nicolas? I could prepare a few introductory slides if that's interesting. I'm thinking the execution modules, states, grains, pillars, etc. Or I could prepare a very simple example Python-script on how to interface with the execution engine of Salt.

I gave an introductory talk (pillars, grains, states, modulrs) on the last meetup, so it would be great to see your take instead this time. We probably need to keep it short so that we have time to experiment, though.

So how does this work? Each person brings a laptop, and Nicolas guides the group through getting salt set up?

    • Nicolas Lara

Pretty much. I can probably hook my laptop to a projector and we can all do the setup together. From there, we can start experimenting with different salt features and try to see how far we can stretch it.

We are going to have some servers to play with and probably use tmux for sharing of the projector/consoles. Get in to irc://freenode/pysthlm and chat about....
