This month's topic is a "Doubleheader". Following announcements and lightning talk(s), Walker Hale and Kojo Idrissa will deliver shorter (20-30 min) discussions on the Python language itself.
In the first section, Walker will present "Inside Context Managers". After explaining their motivation, he will cover these constructs: the syntactic sugar of the with statement, contextlib.contextmanager, and contextlib.closing. For each construct, Walker will show its operation and the equivalent Python code that you don't have to write.
In the second section, Kojo will introduce the issues and implications found in Alex Gaynor's blog post regarding the status of Python 3. Then he will lead open discussion and hopefully get his own questions answered.
Our meetup is located at the Stag's Head Pub, near Richmond and Shepherd. Please enjoy their menu and drink offerings, so they continue to enjoy hosting us! Lastly, please RSVP (even if you're a "Maybe"!) to assist us with capacity planning.
Share your Lightning Talks! A "lightning talk" is a quick mini-presentation (5 minutes maximum) on any Python topic you'd like. We'll save time for 2-3 of these each month: to save a spot, post a comment with your talk's title/topic. Beginner topics are always welcome!
Presentations Wanted: If you'd like to share a topic with the group at an upcoming, let's talk!
