It was great. Jason and Dan are very knowledgeable in Python. I felt I learned a lot.

I've met a bunch of students at USF who are interested in Python and want an intro session, so I've hijacked this meeting and given it a location. Please note that parking at USF is not free but there are metered spaces that accept credit cards at the both in front of and behind the library.

I've been wanting to attend one of these meetings but the Largo location is a bit out of my way. I work in Tampa and leave near downtown St. Pete. Any chance for a meeting closer to my area?

As far as a text editor/IDE I love Vim. Although no master at that either I enjoy using it. For my python practice I have been using a plugin called pymode which auto indents for me on any said blocks of code. I am a beginner at python but although I have dabbled in other languages like Java and C++. I never made it very far. I understand the basic principals of programming, loops, statements etc and look forward to advancing with python.

Well I understand what you mean about newbies. Attending is not set in stone but I hope to make it. With that said I use a Mac as my main machine and use Linux Mint on another, I love both for different reasons. I am a Unix/Linux guy all the way. I am comfortable with navigating from the command line as well as some minor file manipulation etc. I am still learning and am no master at it but I am fairly comfortable and use the command line as much as possible.

In the past, I have seen posts by newbies that say that they are interested, but then don't show up to the meeting. I'm wondering why this doesn't have a date and location selected? Does meetup not allow you to do this?

A couple of questions that would be useful to start out with:

    1. What platform do you have? (Linux, Mac, Windows)
    2. Are you familiar with any text editor (preferably one with an auto-indent feature)?
    3. Are you comfortable using a terminal (command) window?

I am new to Python and programming in general. I have dabbled in other languages but never made it past a certain point without being discouraged. I love Pyhon so far and love the idea of this meet up.
