I think it's the MS Access files. Not sure this is do-able, I'd imagine they're binary files but could be wrong. Maybe you could try SQLite, I think it's intended to be an accessible flat-file database interface.

SQLite has its own file format, which is different from MS Access.

If you're reading the file on Windows, you might be able to use a system service to read the file (assuming Access is installed). It's a "separate process" but one that would already be running, or invoked through an API that loads a DLL. I don't know if such a thing actually exists, though, that's just a guess.

What is an ".mdb" file?

Python Crew,

Do you know of a way to read (do selects on) a .mdb file using Python?

That is, I have an existing .mdb file and I want to read it as tho it were a database.
I would prefer not to have a second process running, just my python script.
I would like this to be platform independent.

My ultimate goal is to put a quick and dirty web service front end on a .mdb file using web.py.  I am prototyping what I want the ultimate service to be.  Then my client will code it permanently into their production system using java.

Any ideas?
