Soccermetrics seeks experienced Python web developer

Howard H.
user 47609352
Atlanta, GA
Post #: 1
Soccermetrics Research & Consulting, LLC (aka Soccermetrics) is a startup that is enabling the Moneyball revolution in soccer. We develop advanced match and front-office performance analytics and software to deliver those analytics to a wide range of end users in the soccer industry, such as professional and amateur teams, player agents, league and media organizations, and predictive markets. Soccermetrics is now a part of the upcoming summer class of Flashpoint and we are in the process of securing additional funding.

We are looking for a software developer to lead development of our web-based analytics applications and APIs. These technologies leverage both the database schemas and the various algorithms created by Soccermetrics to model match events and extract advanced metrics of player and team performance. This developer should be a "generalist" and will work with the founder (also a developer) on refining the codebase already created, implementing formalized software development procedures and practices, and rapidly developing and iterating web-based applications. Over time the ideal developer will be expected to lead Soccermetrics' software development efforts, and will receive an equity stake commensurate with a VP or co-founder level.

The position is ideal for someone who:

  • lives in metro Atlanta,
  • is willing to accept the risks of working at a startup company,
  • is an experienced Python developer on Linux and/or Mac platforms,
  • is experienced with the various Python web application frameworks (esp. Flask),
  • is knowledgeable of relational database methodologies,
  • is experienced with Pythonic ORMs (eg SQLAlchemy)

And of course, being passionate about soccer isn't required, but is definitely a plus!

Further details on required/desired skills and qualifications, as well as instructions for submitting cover letters and CVs, can be found at this link.
