CharPy September 2013: Scrapy

This month we have a tour of Scrapy given by Dan Koch. Scrapy is a screen-scraping and web-crawling framework that you can use to crawl web pages and extract structured data from them. You can find out more at the Scrapy website

Additionally, since we had a number of people just getting started with Python at the last meeting, we'll begin the meeting with a short tutorial on a basic Python topic.

Finally, short lightning talks or show-and-tell of a cool project you've found or are working on are welcome.

Many thanks to Joe and Dan for the great presentations last night and thanks to everyone for coming out. I look forward to seeing you all at the next one.

During the tutorial today, we will just take a few minutes to go over Python data types, and dictionaries in particular. I will add a link to the "python101" repo on Github shortly, which will have a basic but hopefully helpful doc on dictionaries. We can also talk about future tutorials and see what kind of topics might be most beneficial for the group.
