Abstract of the Talk: GNU Radio, the second talk in a series

In the previous talk of GNU Radio series in PyHUG on December 17, 2012, we introduced the concept of software-defined radio(SDR) as well as the free and open source SDR framework -- GNU Radio. In this talk, the speaker will start from explaining basic FM broadcasting to illustrating receiver architectures and then introduce how to use GNU Radio companion to implement a FM broadcast receiver in software. The author will also exemplify digital signal processing in communication systems by adding some filters to improve this FM receiver.

About the Speaker: Albert Huang

Albert is both a programmer and a communication engineer. He learned Python in 2000 and has used it extensively on improving his workflow ever since. He has been working in communication IC industry for more than eight years. His interests include communication engineering and engineering communication, which consists of fields from physical layer to MAC layer as well as typesetting.

Abstract of the Talk: The storm is coming

Storm is a free and open source distributed real-time computation system. Storm makes it easy to reliably process unbounded streams of data, doing for real-time processing like real-time analytics, online machine learning, continuous computation, distributed RPC, ETL, and more. This talk will cover a simple introduction and sample usage of storm, and my personal experience sharing. See you then!

About the Speaker: Chandler

Chandler works for a start-up company as a software developer for about two years, focus on web crawling, virtualization, and system administration. He is interested in using python to deal with big data like web crawling or semantic analysis.
