Saturday Study Group

New to Python? Wanting to learn more about web development or scientific computing?

This weekly study group's goal is to bring together Pythonistas to learn new things in a collaborative environment. No formal lesson but we'll be around to answer questions and help each other. Here are some getting started resources: http://pythonsd.org/pages/getting-started.html

Here are a few of the tutorials that people have been working on:

•  The Flask Mega-Tutorial  http://blog.miguelgrinberg.com/post/the-flask-mega-tutorial-part-i-hello-world

•  An Introduction to Interactive Programming in Python Coursera  https://www.coursera.org/course/interactivepython

• Web Development - How to Build a Blog Udacity   https://www.udacity.com/course/cs253/

• Learning IPython for Interactive Computing and Data Visualization IPython mini-book  http://cyrille.rossant.net/making-pyqt4-pyside-and-ipython-work-together/

• Test-Driven Web Development with Django SD Python Workshop

You are very welcome. You have interesting questions! What do you think of posting some of these questions here in the discussions page of this meetup? We might get more valuable answers and interest from our python members possibly leading to a topic for shared discussion at our workshop or even the monthly meetup... :-)

Good point. Thx. My most recent question is about achieving consistency of the development and production environments. Is it better to: a) Develop in a VM and just copy it (wholesale) to the production server; or b) Use Vagrant/Puppet/other/git to build up a "known" platform from scratch on the server. The former approach, if used in the cloud, requires a Guest O/S on top of (say) VirtualBox on top of a host O/S on top of a hypervisor.

Brad: would you say one thread in your questions was about server configuation, deployment management and related tools? virtual machines, virtual environments, configuration management, deployment management, ...

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
