Qigong is a Chinese meditative practice that originated over 5000 years ago. “Qi” (also referred to as ki, chi, and prana) is life energy or life force and “gong” means work. So qigong is “energy work” or a practice that works with personal life energy.
Descriptions differ worldwide in terminology, but in general qigong can be classified into four categories: Medical, Martial, Folk, and Spiritual as well as four methods: dynamic, static, meditative, and with external agents. The Asheville Qigong Community supports all forms of qigong and hopes to provide Asheville with an experiential qigong forum for introducing and exposing this ancient, yet effective, practice.
Meetups for this group will provide you ample opportunities to learn how qi is physically circulated throughout the body (through pathways called meridians), how qi is stored in your body's energy centers (called Chakras or Dantians), how to breathe properly, and and how your personal energy works within you. With practice, you will naturally learn how to listen for things you may have never heard before. When you reach inside and listen to your body, you can begin to actually feel your life energy.
