Andy Lyons on Geospatial Data Processing and Analysis in R

Spatial data are essential in many fields of science and business. R, while far from being a user-friendly GIS platform, has become increasingly capable of managing, processing, and analyzing spatial data. In this Meetup, we will go over the fundamentals of working with spatial data in R. We look at the most common data classes used to store raster and vector spatial data, and learn how to reference and manipulate them. We will review packages that are good for importing and exporting spatial data from common file formats, project data, select features spatially, do basic geoprocessing operations such as buffers and intersections, and perform raster operations such as map algebra and generating distance surfaces.

I am new to R language, in order to get more from this beginner study group, I would like speaker(s) actually get our hands dirty to use R Studio to play around all the features, such as finding, downloading and installing the packages, and show us some real life tips, thanks!

Could I encourage speaker to record the session using own computer's web cam software (screen and voice capture) if available, and post to youtube? My humble computer has this software built in and it's truly as easy as hitting 'start' and 'stop'
