RAFT Movie Night - May

  • May 18, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • Rich and Kathy's

This month's movie is The Contender.

A political thriller about Laine Hanson, a senator who is nominated to become Vice President following the death of the previous office holder. During the confirmation process, Laine is the victim of a vicious attack on her personal life in which stories of sexual deviancy are spread. She is torn as to whether she should fight back, or stick to her high principles and refuse to comment on the allegations.  Her atheism is also questioned.

I've never seen it. Sounds like a compelling plot line. I always admire a screenplay that places women characters in central influential roles, such as the President in Carl Sagan's 'Contact' and the main character herself, Ellie. Personally, I love to learn from all people (younger/older male/female). In fact, one of my newest mentors is my Horticulture Instructor at RCTC, Robin Fruth-Dugstad. Society could benefit greatly from having more people of her mentality in positions of influence.

Should people bring stuff like snacks and such? Perhaps a hearty beverage?

Hi Jacob, So glad you plan to join us for movie night. It's a very informal gathering, with people bringing a preferred beverage if they have one and sometimes (but not always) something to share snack-wise. Rich and I provide some basic beverages and munchies, too, so it's not necessary, but always welcome.
