Re: [ruby-programming-in-thailand] Looking to Meet BKK Rails Dev's

I'd be happy to share what I know about JRuby -- it shouldn't take long. ;)

Kidding aside, I've used JRuby to drive JDBC, Swing, and Java API's. In addition, if your Ruby app does any threading (or even if not), it's cool to run it in JRuby and examine the internals with jvisualvm, a utility that comes with the JDK.

In case anyone's interested, I wrote blog articles a while back about implementing a simple Fahrenheit <--> Celsius conversion program in Swing using JRuby and Clojure here:

I might be able to put together a slide show between now and then. If not, I'd be happy to just talk, code, and try stuff out together.

Does anyone have any specific questions about JRuby that I might be able to focus on?

Cheers,
Keith

I'm betting we could organize something informal if it's too short-notice to arrange through the meeting space this group has recently used, etc., or if you'd rather be put on the spot with a more intimate group than a big one :-)

I want very much to get into Rails development and would love to offer my expertise in Ruby and other areas (including JRuby, OOD, writing, refactoring, testing, best practices) in return for learning about Rails. This could be in the form of pair programming for a couple of hours, or a more extended collaboration. I'm not expecting any compensation, and for a Rails expert would be willing to offer some payment.
