Due to the recent incidents of 'Yes' RSVPs and event 'No Shows', I'm going to be enforcing strict RSVP rules.
It is imperative that if you RSVP 'Yes' for an event, that you actually attend the event or at least change your RSVP in time for me to adjust the arrangements I've made. When I schedule an event, I have to make arrangements for the number of people who implied that they would attend. When a large number of those people consistently don't show up and don't bother to change their RSVP, then either the venue or I have been inconvenienced. If you do not RSVP, then I don't expect you to attend, so no harm is done. This however does not mean that you should not RSVP, then show up whenever you like. Most of our regular events would not be affected by someone who does not RSVP and shows up, but some events are arranged for a particular number of people and in those cases not RSVPing and showing up anyway is not allowed.
If you RSVP 'Yes' for an event, but you do not attend the event or you show up more than 20 minutes late, and you do not change your RSVP within 24 or 48 hours of the event (depending on the event), you will marked as a 'No Show'. After 3 'No Show' incidents, you will be removed from the group but not banned from the group. Once removed, you will allowed to rejoin should you decide that you want to remain in the group. If you do return and there are 2 more incidents of 'No Show', then you will be banned from the group and will not be allowed to rejoin the group.
It is not my desire to 'kick people out' of the group, but I can't seem to get across the importance of updating RSVPs. There is an Android app and an iPhone app for meetup that can be downloaded for free and that makes it incredibly easy to change your RSVP. I understand that life happens and last minute changes are inevitable, however when I schedule an event, I have to be at the event despite .... 'Life'. Our last 2 events have been the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL 2013 and dinner for 20 at BRASA. 18 people RSVPd 'Yes' for the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL and only 2 met me there. 20 RSVPd 'Yes' for Dinner at BRASA and 11 attended, leaving an entire reserved table unused.
Please remember that the organizers time is as important as your time and when you disregard the common courtesy of updating your RSVP, it implies that you are not respectful of the organizers time. I hope you understand my position.
