Reason for studying Japanese language and culture?

Been interested since elementary school. I guess I knew about the Japanese, because I knew they were making the video games that I enjoyed as a kid. I had a Japanese language class once or twice after school in elementary school where I learned my first kanji for the numbers and I've been hooked since then. I've taken several Japanese classes and lived in Japan for 5 months as an exchange student in the JYPE program at Tohoku University in Sendai.

PhD student at Duke.
