Potluck / NCMA Movie on the Lawn - "The Big Lebowski"

  • Sep 7, 2013 · 6:30 PM

Movie on lawn at the North Carolina Museum of Art....it's like a drive in movie minus the cars.  Seriously - the size of the screen puts IMAX to shame!

“The Dude Abides” Movie Party, starting at 6:30 pm, when Baguettaboutit, Mama Dukes, American Meltdown, and LoYo food trucks roll in. Wear a costume and take your picture in the Lebowski Lounge, hosted by the NCMA Artist Link Team, or leave a message on the Donny tribute wall.

The Big Lebowski (1999) Written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi. (117 min.) R

Jeff Bridges’s signature role is the Dude, the laziest man in L.A. County, a white-Russian-swilling slacker who lives to bowl, forced into film-noirish action over a mistaken identity. The quotable dialogue and memorably bent characters rock this legendary film. The Dude abides.

“It put a smile on my face that never left for 117 minutes” (Chicago Tribune).

Watch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cd-go0oBF4Y

Please know what you are coming to see. This movie has more use of the "F" word than a gangta rapper with Turrets Syndrome, nudity & Jesus bowling.... therefore the following sensitive groups should bypass this one:
-members of the lollipop guild
-if you belong to a quilting bee, sewing circle or play bingo more than 3x a week
-people with IBS
-if you own a ferret, chinchilla, labradoodle or any other obnoxious trendy pet OR own more than 3 cats
-if you've ever dressed up like Harry Potter, Frodo, Mr. Spock or Darth Vader to attend a movie premiere
-if you've ever had a 'Baby on Board' sign in your car
-the Shah of Iran
-South American dictators
-Andy Gibb fans
-Pescatarians

Cost: $5 General admission, free to NCMA members. Members must show current membership card and photo ID at the Box Office. Movie starts @ 8:30pm. Get there at 6:30pm and enjoy socializing and a potluck picnic on the lawn.

I didn't end up meeting up with the group, but this was a fantastic event. I wish there were more in the Fall when it's cooler instead of the summer when it's so hot and humid

They are opening the gates at 6:30, so I've updated the start time accordingly. It looks like the NCMA is going all out on his event - brining in food trucks, etc. Should be a great time!

I'll be out on the lawn at the NCMA @ 7pm. I'll be wearing a NY Yankees jersey - please come up and introduce yourself as it is infinitely easier for you to locate me than vice versa :-) Please be there promptly at 7pm if you'd like to sit with the group - this is not a venue where you can save seats. Bring some food to share if you'd like to partake in the potluck. I would suggest bringing a chair vs. just a blanket to sit on.
