456 South Border Road, Winchester, MA
Ok, early birds. Let's fire up the 5:30 am early morning hike.
What's the plan?
We'll do an approx. 4-5 mile loop on fire roads and trails around the reservoirs. This should take us about 1.5 hours and we will aim to be back at the cars by 7:15am at the latest. There are a few steep ascents to rocky outcrops and we'll get a bit of elevation. We also plan to hike at a relatively fast pace (3+mph). You don't need to be an experienced hiker to join, but you should have some reasonable level of aerobic fitness. So you know what to expect - we're out to get exercise, not take a leisurely, relaxed stroll in the woods.
Where will we meet?
We're meeting NEAR the Long Pond Parking (gate 13) on South Border Rd since the gates are likely still locked/closed at that hour. We'll park at the pull-off just south of the Long Pond Parking lot. The approximate address (use your GPS) is 456 South Border Road, Winchester, MA. Heading north on South Border Rd (from Exit 33 on I-93), you'll go about 1.5 miles. You'll pass Leslie Rd on your left shortly before the pull off (on your right). If you get to the gated Long Pond Parking (on your right) you've gone too far. Please be on time - most of us have to get to work eventually and if we start late, we'll finish late and mess up our schedules. I'll leave the lot promptly at 5:35am.
What should I bring?
Water, good hiking shoes/trail runners.
Rain will cancel - I'll send out an email the night before if weather is threatening to cancel the hike.
