Madison and Adams via King Ravine - Advanced

  • Jul 13, 2013 · 8:30 AM

Join me on a hike to two four-thousand footers in the Presidential Range. We will ascend by way of King ravine and The Subway. It is one of the most scenic trails in the Whites and definitely one of my favorites.
We will summit Adams first then over by the Madison hut and mt. Madison. We will come back down the Air Line trail. Mileage is 11.18 and there will be 5,403 feet of elevation gain.

We start as a group, hike as a group, and finish as a group. Our pace will be that of the slowest hiker. This trip isn't for you if you are faster than the group and don't want to stay with us, if you want to head off on your own, or if you are slower than the group and expect us to constantly wait for you.

Guests are not permitted - all participants must be members of the Random Group of Hikers.

Dogs are not permitted on this hike

Equipment list:

Make sure you have the ten essential items!

Great group. King Ravine, via Subway to ice caves were amazing and it was such a beautiful day. Thanks Ted for organizing & Jeffrey for taking photos.

Does anyone want to carpool from Boston? I have a car and can give someone a ride, or could join someone else's carpool, if there's room.

I'll be driving myself because I might be doing another hike in Maine the following day, just to be clear is there a difference between the Valley Way Trailhead and the Air Line Trailhead? If so, which one are we meeting at?

See you at the Trailhead. I just booked accommodations in Gorham NH, so I will be a little more rested when we climb King Ravine. I was asleep when I read the thread & saw David's post so I got confused. I thought there was a change in route. Sorry for causing confusion. I don't have dataphone, Ted can you text me your number[masked] so I can have your number. I'm assuming trailhead is well marked for airline/valley way.

I'll be leaving in like 15 minutes to camp out overnight before the hike tomorrow would someone mind texting me and letting me know what the name of the trailhead is that we're meeting at? I've got directions to the GPS location that was listed but I was wondering if there was a sign that I should be looking out for? My number is[masked]

Latest weather looks good, I checked three sites and they all show favorable conditions for this hike. I am leaving from Boston and can carpool. Either from Boston or a park and ride.

Looks like the weather is going to be OK. We will be above treeline for quite a while so make sure you have rain gear, fleece, etc. Also book time is 8 hours 19 minutes so we need to be ready to hike at 8:30 sharp!

The weather does appear to be deteriorating. I will take another look first thin Friday and see how it is going.

According to Tomoko write up last week, she wrote: King Ravine is rough and very steep which requires a considerable amount of rock scrambling scale. This hiking event must be done when rocks are not wet, I also read this in a guide book. I'm keeping fingers cross it will be dry.
