Sandwich in your Backpack! (White Mountains) Intermediate

Join us for an autumn weekend backpack trip in the Sandwich Range Wilderness in the White Mountains...and they will be white! This will be a 17 mile hike with about 6000 feet of elevation change. We will summit several peaks including the Tripyramids, Whiteface and Passaconaway. There will be several brook crossings and scrambles. Some trail sections will be steep and rough on both ascents and descents. We'll start the hike Saturday morning, complete the hike on Sunday and maybe stop for dinner/drinks on the way home. The leaders will likely stay in a roadside campground Friday night, participants are encouraged to join. Saturday night we will set up a wilderness camp (no cabins, shelters, platforms, or sites). Temperatures will be cold and wintery, heavy snow cancels. Experienced hikers only. You must have the right equipment: heavy weight hiking boots, 0° degree sleeping bag, pad, raingear, traction devices, poles, headlamp. We will “buddy up” and share tents to limit the number and reduce pack weight. We will provide hot water and oatmeal in the mornings and hot water for dinner Saturday night. Bring food for yourself, for snacks, lunch and dinner.

We start as a group, hike as a group, and finish as a group. Our pace will be that of the slowest hiker. This trip isn't for you if you are faster than the group and don't want to stay with us, if you want to head off on your own, or if you are a very slow hiker and expect us to constantly wait for you. We will not be rushing this hike, but you must be in appropriate physical condition and used to hiking with a full pack.

Guests are not permitted - all participants must be members of the Random Group of Hikers.

Dogs are not permitted on this hike.

This was a great experience. The leaders were knowledgeable and made sure everyone was safe. Couldn't have asked for a better group.

Hi Everyone, I have hiked 15 4ks and would like to join you on this trip Saturday. However, I would like to get in touch with one of you before this event. I don't have a car. Would someone be able to carpool from Somerville/Arlington area? Thanks! Emilie[masked]

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
