Team PedXing Walks for Burn Survivors

I am posting this event for a friend and a member of our group - PedXing (Dave).  You can use this event listing to coordinate with other randomtites.

If you have never met him you are missing out - he's one of the best you could ever meet.  If you have, you know what I mean.

I have made a donation to Team PedXing on behalf of the Random Group of Hikers.

David adds:  Here's a very generous article on the Walk and my involvement:

This is a small charity walk which covers a 3 mile loop around a section of the Charles River. It's been a fun and festive fall occasion. There is coffee and breakfast pastry before the walk, and a luncheon reception after the walk.

The walk benefits The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors and local burn survivors.

We will also be accepting donations for the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.

You do not have to register to drop by. The registration fee of $15 gets you lunch (donated by Redbones and Jacob Wirth), a T-Shirt and the before walk snacks.

The American Legion has donated the use of their building and grounds and run an inexpensive cash bar (domestic beers are $2.25, specialty and imports are $3.25) which opens after the walk. Please email Dave for more information, or make comments/ask questions with your RSVP.

Dave founded this walk 6 years ago as a way to give back to a community that helped him in a time of need. In 2004 he suffered severe burn injuries and was given a 50% chance of survival at best. After 3 months in hospitals he was discharged home, disabled and with an uncertain future. The fellowship and support he received from other burn survivors, including ones with injuries far more severe than his own - people who had lost hands, feet, vision, hearing as well as those who were massively disfigured by their injuries made a difference in his recovery.

He also had the opportunity to see how the work of the New England Burn Survivors changed the lives of people who had suffered traumatic injuries. He has been hugely fortunate in his recovery, the effects of his injuries usually go unnoticed. He is in better shape than he was before the accident. This gives him the opportunity to both pay back and pass along the support he was given.

For more about Dave's fascinating and moving story:

The Phoenix Society is a mostly volunteer organization with a very lean and efficient staff and Burn Survivors is all volunteer. Registration is not tax deductible - because of what you get for the money.  If you can deduct charitable donations, please make checks out to "The Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors".
