What is your hiking experience? (e.g. how long have you been hiking, how often do you get out , where are some of your favorite places, etc.)

I have been hiking since I was very young. I get out as often as I can. I go up to the BWCA in Minnesota every summer with my family. I've hiked all over Minnesota, done quite a bit of hiking in the San Bernardino mountains in southern California, the Flagstaff/Sodona area of Arizona, around Lake Powell in Utah, the Sandias area in New Mexico and the Kilimanjaro area in Tanzania when I lived there. The Blue Hills are ten minutes from home and are my primary trails currently. I have been up to Mt. Garfield this fall and the Ethan Pond, Zealand Falls area this winter.

What type of hikes do you like best? (e.g. day hikes, overnight backpacks, hikes that may involve off-trail "bushwhacking", etc.)

I like doing the most difficult hikes that I have time for, and that I can also talk someone else into doing with me. I enjoy backpacking and camping in the most remote locations that I can find whether on or off trail. I just started winter mountain backpacking and have really enjoyed it so far.

What are your hiking goals? (e.g. just like hiking, enjoy being outdoors, looking to finish one of the "lists", etc.)

I want to spend as much time outside hiking and camping as I can afford to do. I would like to become a comfortable and confident mountaineer. And I would like to know the Massachusetts and New Hampshire State and National Parks well, before I inevitably move somewhere else.

What is the most strenuous/difficult hike that you have done? What made it so tough?

The most strenuous hike that I've done was a break neck exit from deep in the BWCA to outrun an incoming thunder storm. It was a constant paddle and over 700 rods of portage for 11 hours into the wind in 90 degree humid conditions, with aluminum canoes. It was exhausting. I had a preseason week of trail running in the San Bernardino mountains for cross country in college where we ran with minimal packs for almost 100 miles in 5 days in hot August weather. I did a three day trail running backpacking trip with a thirty pound pack on the Superior hiking trail on Lake Superior.

Do you have any outdoor leadership experience? Would you be interested in organizing and leading your own events with the Random Hikers??

I held leadership positions in the Boy Scouts and have lead trips with inexperienced friends in the BWCA, Joshua Tree National Park, the San Bernardino Mountains and in the White Mountains. As I get more first hand experience in the region I would love to organize and lead trips and events.
