I'm a life-long New Englander who enjoys getting out of the city (far north Maine or just to the Fells, doesn't matter much) and spending some time in the great outdoors.
I've been hiking for about 15 years. I'll manage to get out and do a few 4000 footers a year (not working on a list, though I'm thinking I should start) and I do an annual trip to Katahdin in early August. With family that recently moved to Vermont, I'm shifting my interest to the Green Mountains.
Any hike that includes a water hole is fine with me. I'm more of a day hiker but I'll do the occasional over night back pack as well.
I just enjoy being outdoors. I'm also a big flora/fauna person so finding new things to add to my list of "seen it" is pretty fun too.
Katahdin about five years ago. It rained like a monsoon the night before and was unusually cold the following day so that even in August the Knife's Edge had small spots of black ice. It was more mental than anything else but I don't think I've concentrated so hard on each step during a section of hiking in my life.
Sure, at some point, that would be great. I led a few trips many, many, many years ago in college.
