Fort Worth Food Bank- 2nd Tues of every month

I cannot make it this month due to a work commitment, hope to see you next month!!  ...Karen

Even though I wont be there, please join the rest of the group to help sort and pack food into storage boxes for TAFB from 6:00pm to about 7:30pm. This is NOT an event where you can donate food, we're just donating our time! Food sorting activities vary based on need!  Volunteers help make Tarrant Area Food Bank an efficient charity. Each year, more than 5,000 volunteers give more than 55,000 hours of service. Their service empowers the Food Bank and its network of partner charities to feed approximately 280,000 Texans in 13 counties.

Kids 16+ are welcome .

This event occurs on the Second Tuesday of each month, we have a reservation for 20 volunteers.

OK to bring drinks and snacks, but purses should be locked up.

Closed toe shoes are required for safety.

The families and individuals served by TAFB include:

* Children, who are nearly one-half (43 percent) of all individuals

The network serves:

* Senior citizens on fixed incomes

* Single parents earning minimum wage

* Chronically ill or severely disabled individuals

* Unemployed and laid-off workers

* Homeless families and individuals

The majority of people seeking food assistance were not receiving government benefits in 2009-10. Among all households served by the Tarrant Area Food Bank network:

* Most do not have great numbers of children --- 63 percent of households have three or fewer members and many households consist of one elderly person;

* 30 percent of families with children younger than 18 are headed by single parents;

* 65 percent have a total annual income of less than $15,000, whether from employment, pensions, or some form of Social Security;

* 52 percent are having to choose whether to buy food or pay for utilities.

* 39 percent are forced to choose between paying for medicine/medical care and buying groceries.

      Hi Deanna! I volunteered at the food bank last Tuesday and took my 16 year-old along with her 16 year-old friend. I believe 16 & up is allowable. See ya there!

    FYI...It was kind of tricky to find using my GPS last time I went. It's there though. Wish I could provide more info to help anyone get there, but somehow I made it. (Keep in mind that I tend to be challenged with directions at times even w/ GPS...so it may have just been me!)
