Wrapping party and Potluck

Additional note: we'll close the RSVPs when we send out the address on Friday.

Gift wrapping party and potluck

AKA Elf Esteem Workshop, 2012

Dear RAK members,
As you may know, we deliver gifts to every resident at Ashford Hall for the holiday season and this year is no exception. Dawn, a perennial powerhouse at the North Pole, has set up a fundraiser already:
http://www.meetup.com/randomacts/events/87930022/

It's cross-posted in many groups and is sure to help us make the holidays special for our senior friends. Once we've collected, we will be picking up items...and then those need wrapping.

Random Acts member Dunreeth has graciously invited us to her place for a potluck/wrapping party. “Dave,” the elves gasped, "Tell us how can we be part of this! We're all ears!” Well first yule log into meetup.... (And when you arrive, please use the door. Santa only comes down the chimney because it soots him.)

Details: Saturday, December 1, 4:00 PM till...? Near Walnut Hill/Audelia in Dallas.  We'll send address and phone contact info to YES RSVPs the night before.

Wrapping paper, scissors, scotch tape, gift bags/boxes etc.: bring it.

Now as for that potluck. Please post in your RSVP what you'd like to bring so we don't ALL end up bringing Elfabet soup. And BYOB.

While we're at it, Dunreeth and I were thinking we could run through some Christmas songs on guitar, so get your vocal cords warmed up. Maybe we should try “Blue Christmas” by Elfis!

Please keep your RSVP current so that the maximum number of people can enjoy the event.  I listed the event for 2 hours but if the egg nog gets flowing, who knows?

As always, thanks for all you do and we hope to see you “shortly!”

Maybe we can order some pizza if there's not enough food? I didn't have a chance to make anything :(

I'll try to make a quick pit stop for soda at the store before I arrive. But I'll be bringing gift wrap stuff to. Should be a nice time :)

Hey, looking forward to meeting everyone. I will bring food and supplies but I suck at wrapping : ). Hope there is another job for me...or maybe I can finally learn how wrap.

This will be my first "real" meetup with this group. I was at Blue Mesa last week, but I knew others from some of the other groups. Please be gentle with me...I'll bring a snack, just not sure what yet, maybe some cheese & crackers. I won't be able to stay late because I have another event later in the evening, but I wanted to get to meet everyone before going to the nursing home on Sunday. Can't wait!!!

I am wondering...Did the senior citizens make any individual requests or are we giving gifts randomly to all the seniors? Also, I have about 20 boot boxes and 20 shoe boxes left from my Operation Christmas Child project. Should I bring them to wrap?

I am allergic to dogs but I'll take an allergy pill before I get there. As long as the dog isn't sitting on my lap the entire time, I should be ok. ;) not sure what I'm bringing for the potluck yet tho

I just joined tonight. My fav thing to do is random acts of kindness. I might have to work that night but I'm going to try to attend if at all possible. My company is doing a Saint Judes drive this year. I'm glad they are a socially aware company that gives back to kids in the community. Look forward to meeting everyone!!! Great group!!! Excited to be a member... let's go out and do some good!!

Welcome aboard, Betsy! No problem with canceling but please update your RSVP if you have to do so. That way, someone can get bumped in from the waiting list.

Hi Everyone! This will be my first time attending a meetup with this group! I'm really excited! I have just moved from Montgomery, Al. Each year, it was tradition in my family to go over to my grandmother's house and make gift baskets and wrap presents to be taken to the nursing homes. This event is very near and dear to me because it's all I know since a young girl. I was feeling guilty and a little down about not being able to help out this year and then I saw this event announcement! God bless the organizers and all volunteers. My husband and I will be there with bells and a huge pan of my special Mac n Cheese! Happy Holidays!!

We're so glad to have you and your husband join us, Jessica! The day after this, we head to the nursing home and celebrate with the residents. http://www.meetup.com... Many events coming up!

Hi, Shubhada: I'd say wrapping ability is the criterion.

What is the lower age limit for this event?

    November 7, 2012

@Tammy I edited your RSVP so it will keep the count right. If need be later, you can also edit it.
