  • Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center

Everyday The Salvation Army is making an impact and helping the world become a little better by changing one life at a time. We can help by serving meals to the homeless individuals.

We will be serving lunch from 11:00 - 1:15 at the Salvation Army Carr P. Collins Social Service Center (across the street from Parkland Hospital). This location prepares and serves 1200 - 1400 meals daily and houses[masked] individuals in four residential programs: Substance Abuse for Men & Women; Homeless Shelter for Men; Homeless Shelter for Women & Children and Domestic Violence Shelter. For more info about SA, please go to http://www.salvationarmydfw.org/

Please update your RSVP as soon as possible if your plans change. We need to allow time for others to sign up who may be interested.

IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME: Before you come to this event, please read the "Salvation Army Dress Code" in the Random Acts' "Files" section. http://files.meetup.com/482512/Salvation%20Army%20Dress%20Code%202011.pdf.  Please plan to arrive no later than 11:10 for the orientation!! Wear a ball cap if you don't want to wear a hair net.
Parking is behind their building off of Redfield between Lofland and Butler. There is a sign that indicates the parking lot is permit only but park there anyway! Once you turn into that lot you will see the guest parking. Do not park in front of the building as cars will be towed.

If you would like to contact the Salvation Army volunteer coordinator directly to see if you can serve during non-RAK events, please email Nancy_Kerley@uss(dot)salvationarmy(dot)org.

How firm is the age limit? I have a very mature, helpful almost-nine-year-old who helps with SoupMobile sandwich making all the time. I'd like to do this with both of my daughters. Is this firm?

Hi Jennifer -- it's the Salvation Army's guidelines that kids need to be at least 12. We're around very hot food and slippery surfaces, so it's a bit different from Soupmobile. Thanks!

What pointers do you have for first-timers?

    May 5, 2013

Please read through the parking and the dress code information. If you don't want to wear a hairnet, please bring a hat and if possible, please lock your purse, etc. in the trunk of your car (or leave at home) before getting to Salvation Army. We don't really have a place to safely put it. Thanks!
