BARAKKA @ Underground Arts

We went to see them last time and these guys were amazing.
The MOST danceable music around.

Barakka is Philadelphia's own multi-ethnic group specializing in Turkish folk-rock with a mix of eastern and western instrumentation including guitar, oud, drums, bass, darbuka and keyboard.

BARAKKA will be performing at the Underground Arts in the Wolf Building (12th & Callowhill St) on Friday night 11PM as part of an LNC (Late Night Cabaret) Fringe Festival event

FREE SHOW (and there is beer there!...and food, I think)

If its super crowded like it was last time, I am not sure we'll be able to 'mete' each other so easily. I know Ill be near the very front, near the stage, trying to take some photos. Nevertheless, you will love this as a night out. Its really energizing

so i went but was not able to find any other members. (i was the girl in the pink dress/purple pants dancing at the left of the stage.) LOVED the band! did not love having to wait until 1am to see them, though & thought the other show, while kind of entertaining (for a short period of time) was highly self-indulgent. curious what others thought? and hope to meet you guys at another event! i will go see barakka anytime!

I was there to right of stage taking some photos! I saw you! (I happen to be friends with some of the band). I didnt see the other show though and was really annoyed it started at 1AM too! I was wondering: are super late starts a Philly thing?

Yup, unfortunately late starts are a philly thing for some reason. I only stayed for a few since I was driving to the shore the same night and it was already late. I thought they were incredible tho and would happily see them any other time. Thanks so much for posting Alex!!

their shows are usually very packed, and they play all the time (all over the city).....sadly, you cannot always judge the attendance by the meetup numbers (many people show up who dont rsvp on the meetup, or who arrive from other meetups, or who just arrive randomly)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
