Grouse Grind (hike) & Raw Vegan meal (in Vancouver, BC)

August 24, 2013
Vancouver, BC Grouse Grind (hike) & Raw Vegan meal

This is a Road Trip! (Hopefully, members of the Raw Vancouver/RawBC groups will join us!) We will be heading north across the border to lovely Vancouver, BC! Grouse Mountain is in North Vancouver. The hike up the mountain is called the "Grouse Grind". It is steep and rises almost 3,000 feet. For those who don't want to hike, a tram is also available for the trip up ($39.95 round-trip). At the top is a beautiful view of Vancouver, as well as an animal habitat with grizzly bears and wolves. Bring your cameras in case we get a glimpse of these animals or other wildlife! We will take the tram back down to the base of the mountain. The one-way trip down is $10.00. We will likely begin the hike at 11:00 AM. If there are any changes, we will confirm the new time closer to the event.

After the the hike we will dine at one of the area's raw food restaurants.

Andrew Chin and I will be leaving bright an early to make a full day of it. We plan to leave Seattle by 6:00 AM and will return in the late evening (or after midnight?). We may have additional room in the car. If you are interested in this excursion and need a ride, please post a comment to that effect. If you wish to take the trip and will be driving (or can drive) your own vehicle and have room for others, please post a comment to that effect.

For anyone going on this trip, please be sure to bring your current (active) passport or enhanced Washington State drivers license. Anyone not having proper identification will be left at the border!

As time permits, we will do some additional sight-seeing. Each car can plan their own itineraries before and after the hike and meal or we can plan things together.

Please confirm if you plan to attend, so we can alert the restaurant of the number of people who will be attending. If we end up with a large group, Eternal Abundance will have the most room.

How to get to Grouse Grind

Estimated Driving Time from Vancouver: 30 minutes

The Grouse Grind Trail starts from the parking lot at the base of Grouse Mountain.

From Downtown:
Drive westbound along Georgia Street and continue along the Stanley Park Causeway and across the Lions Gate Bridge. Right after crossing the bridge, take the right-hand turnoff to North Vancouver and immediately change lanes into one of the furthest left two lanes. At the first set of lights, the left two lanes turn onto Capilano Road. Follow Capilano Road as it continues northbound, passing the Capilano Suspension Bridge and Capilano Dam, until it ends up in the Grouse Mountain parking lot.

From Highway #1:
Take the Trans Canada Highway (Highway #1) westbound across the Iron Workers Memorial Bridge (Second Narrows Bridge) to North Vancouver and take the Capilano Road Exit. Turn right onto Capilano Road and head northbound until it ends up in the Grouse Mountain parking lot.

Transit Access to Grouse Grind:
For those downtown, take the Seabus across to North Vancouver and at the Lonsdale Quay bus loop, take bus #236 to Grouse Mountain. People travelling from East Vancouver or Burnaby may find it easier to take a bus to the Phibbs Exchange bus loop in North Vancouver and then take bus #232 to Grouse Mountain.

I envy raw foodists in Vancouver! They have much more raw food restaurants there. The food was great! Thank you Jeff for organizing this. Thank you Andrew for driving.

I won't be able to go. My passport expired last year, and I don't have an enhanced driver's license. I checked the requirements & there doesn't appear to be any alternative for me. Maybe next time.

Hi Elisa, It looks like we still need a second car to fit everyone. Hopefully, we'll get a second car. I'll look into a rental as an option.

    Hello Everyone,
So far, we potentially have seven people who are interested in going to Vancouver BC for the Grouse Grind.

We are likely going to need another driver. Most of us are meeting at Jeff's place, but we have one person who needs to be picked up in Everett, and another who needs to be picked up in Lynnwood. I can handle the pick up at Jeff's place and Lynnwood, but is there anyone else willing to stop off in Everett?

    Blessings,
    Andrew

Awesome! Woo hoo! I'm glad you can join us! The first car may be full. The last person is a tentative. If he can't make it, I believe the spot would be yours if your interested. Otherwise we start filling a second vehicle! I also realize people may just meet us "up" there.
