i don't doubt that it was intentionally posted to the list, as it was an original email addressed to the mailing address.
if you read the text of the original message, it instructs the reader to send it to 12 people and "see what he does".
so by sending this message to hundreds, perhaps the sender thought that a multitude of blessings would come their way, or that hundreds of people could be "saved" or "enlightened".

this is a similar approach to dumping a whole bag of pennies into a fountain to make more wishes.
i personally opt for tossing just one coin into that fountain, and the one wish i will make today is that people be more sensitive to and conscious of the fact that not everyone believes God is going to save us or make life better for us. Toss that penny into the fountain of life itself, fully show up in life and take responsibility for all that you attract--good, bad or in between. If each of us focuses on bettering ourselves from the inside out, we do more good for the entire world than we can by trying to turn everyone on to our personal religious beliefs.
