Local Food Week Kick Off with Paul Nison

Oklahoma's First Annual Local Food Week will be celebrated from June 14th - June 21st, 2009. Supporting and endorsing this new, exciting annual event is our Governor, Brad Henry, along with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture and many other statewide office holders and organizations.

Real Food Tulsa is helping to kick this week off into high gear with a very special event on the first day, Sunday, June14th. Internationally acclaimed raw food author, educator and certified raw food chef, Paul Nison, will be in Tulsa for an exciting lecture and locally themed raw pot luck.

Paul will be sharing information with us from his latest book.....everything from the raw food diet to when and what you should eat, best times to wake and sleep, balancing weight and gaining energy and the significance of eating foods that are fresh, ripe, organic and locally grown. Paul has quite a following in Tulsa, so please register soon due to the limited number of seating. The charge for this lecture will be $10 per person (payable through PayPal or cash at the door), to help support bringing our speaker to Tulsa. Paul will also have his books available at the event for purchase.

For the Pot Luck:

Please bring a raw food dish that can feed 8-12 people and include the recipe. The goal is to include at least one locally grown ingredient in your recipe. The pot luck will begin promptly at 5:30 and Paul's lecture will be from 6 - 8 pm.

The doors of this venue are locked due to security at 6 pm, so please be ON TIME!

I've missed the last two meet ups, so I am excited about attending this one. It will be fun using items from my garden. See you there!

Last night's event was great! It was a pleasure to have so many new faces in the crowd. This was our best attendance so far and I hope Local Foods Week and Paul's lecture will stimulate new interest & enthusiasm in improved health within the community!

Paul was an awesome speaker! He was very honest and straightforward about the many facets that, in his experience and that of many others, promote health and wellness. The potluck was delicious! Thanks Penni, for a fabulous event! :-)

Long on entertainment, short on substance. Disappointed. Did not learn anything. Promotional items very expensive. Purchased the hemp protein. Not very good. Have to mix it with something else to get it down. Pot luck food was great!

The best way to kick off a week like this is with a super motivating speaker like Paul Nison. He said he was not there to liked, he was there to tell the truth about the SAD health condition in America and how we could simply change those unhealthy habits. He said the medical community has no clue about health. He gave great examples, which he follows himself, on how to take responsibility for your health through a lifestyle that promotes mostly raw, organic, fresh foods; plenty of clean water; getting enough sleep 7-8 hours; exercise, but not too much; not eating at night, from 5pm till 8am; eating 2-3 meals per day without snacking; and reducing the stressful conditions in your life as much as possible. He also promoted his new book coming out in August and shared allot of insightful tips from it. The raw food potluck was a great hit, the biggest one I've ever attended, all the colors and textures and fabulous flavors. Thanks to Penni for a raw job well done!

Penni did a terrific job organizing the event. The room was comfortable. Good tempurature too. The room was set up nicely to see and hear speaker. The food tables were set up for easy flow. The entire evening was very nice. Thank you, Penni. Rawk On! Karen Nettles

He was a wonderful, non-apologetic speaker who was honest in his opinion about the Bible and the works of others who are dedicated to the goal of health building. He was entertaining, yet straightforward. His apearance was that of a man who walked the talk. He was easy to hear and understand despite the New York accent. Grin. I appreciated the emphasis he placed on sleep. I haven't heard any speakers with that strong of an emphasis there. Mentioning it, yes, writing a book on it, no. I would love to hear him again on Tuesday. Thank you for brining him in. Great choice.
