Hiking and a Potluck!

Greetings Raw Food and Beyond Atlanta members!  In honor of our new Meetup name and mission, we are going beyond just raw food and getting healthy with some exercise!  We will be meeting at 2:15pm to hike at Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.  Arabia Mountain is a 20 minute drive east from the City of Atlanta.  The Nature Preserve is comprised of 2,000 acres of granite outcrop, wetlands, pine and oak forests, streams, and a lake.  You can find more information on Arabia Mountain here http://www.arabiaalliance.org/index.html.  Please arrive at 2:15pm as the hike will begin at promptly at 2:30.  We will hike for approximately 2 hours before returning to the Nature Preserve area for our potluck.  Please remember to bring some water to drink during the hike.

If you do not want to hike, please feel free just to join us for the potluck starting at 4:30pm.   Please let us know when you RSVP if you will be attending the hike and potluck or just the potluck.

Please do not bring any glass containers as they are not allowed in the park.

What to bring: A raw, preferably organic, dish for 8-10 servings. Bring a dish that you've made yourself or picked up at Life Grocery, Sevananda or Return to Eden. Have fun and get creative! An index card with your name and recipe (or at least the list of ingredients). Let us know what is and isn't organic. Your own plate, cup and eating utensils (to minimize trash and stay green). Serving utensils. Your relaxed self (and possibly a friend or two) and be ready to move, play, learn, share, and enjoy vibrant, delicious food with like-minded individuals! Well-behaved, closely supervised children are also welcome.

What to expect: From 2:30 until 4:30 we will hike and play around Arabia Mountain.  From 4:30-6 pm we will share in the delicious, lovingly prepared food. During the potluck, we will share any announcements, upcoming events, and recipes while continuing to socialize. So come and get some great exercise and enjoy great healing food, community and learning. The $5.00 meeting fee is appreciated and helps cover the cost of website dues, supplies, clean up and miscellaneous expenses! Please RSVP for this event - but only respond "YES" if you plan to attend! Our potlucks fill up fast and once they are at capacity, the additional RSVP's roll into an automated waiting list. When someone changes their RSVP due to a schedule conflict, the person at the top of the waiting list is automatically added to the list of attendees. If your schedule changes and you cannot attend, please be considerate and change your RSVP as soon as you know, so that you are not preventing someone else from attending. Thank you! We'll see you there!

Psetpshet, I am so sorry that you could not find the group. We would have loved to see you there! We left the Nature Center shortly after 2:30pm and we did pass by the animal rescue center about 15 or 20 minutes later. We must have just missed you. I hope that you will be able to join us at our next meetup.

When I got to the park, ! was unable to find the group for the potluck. I went to the Nature Center, the entrance to the mountain area adjacent to the animal rescue center, and to the campsite area and I didn't find a trace of the group. I am looking forward to the next outing.

What a great time with great people! We saw some wild fruits (including elderberries, persimmons, and a fig tree) on walk to the mountain. Once there, we hiked the powerful granite rock, stopped at a pretty lake, shared some thoughts and laughs, had a small toning circle and discussion about the healing powers of granite, and we absorbed the beautiful sun and air around us. Then, back to the nature center for an awesome tasting Fruit-A-Licious POTLUCK! Melons, pineapple, oranges, peaches, berry medley, coconut water, tomatoes, pears, and the list goes on... Definitely worth the trip there!!!

It was a wonderful meetup with a great group and mix of people! New members came and new friendships were formed! We had fun hiking around Arabia Mountain before enjoying a delicious meal of juicy fruit! It was fun to get outside and be active in the beautiful sunshine. Looking forward to the next one!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
