Hiking and a Potluck

Greetings Raw Food and Beyond Atlanta members!

In honor of our Meetup name and mission, we are again going beyond just raw food and getting healthy with some exercise! We will be meeting at 3:00pm to hike at Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area. Arabia Mountain is a 20 minute drive east from the City of Atlanta. The Nature Preserve is comprised of 2,000 acres of granite outcrop, wetlands, pine and oak forests, streams, and a lake. You can find more information on Arabia Mountain here

Please arrive at 3:00pm as the hike will begin at promptly at 3:15pm. We will hike for approximately 2 hours before returning to the Nature Preserve area for our potluck. Please remember to bring some water to drink during the hike.

If you do not want to hike, please feel free just to join us for the potluck starting at 5:15pm. Please let us know when you RSVP if you will be attending the hike and potluck or just the potluck.

Please do not bring any glass containers as they are not allowed in the park.

What to bring:

• A raw, preferably organic, dish for 8-10 servings. Bring a dish that you've made yourself or picked up at Life Grocery, Sevananda or Return to Eden. Please feel free to bring simple dishes. Bowls of fruit and salads are welcome additions to our potlucks! Have fun and get creative!
• An index card with your name and recipe (or at least the list of ingredients). Let us know what is and isn't organic.
• Your own plate, cup and eating utensils (to minimize trash and stay green).
• Serving utensils.
• Your relaxed self (and possibly a friend or two) and be ready to move, play, learn, share, and enjoy vibrant, delicious food with like-minded individuals! Well-behaved, closely supervised children are also welcome.

What to expect: From 3:15 until 5:15pm we will hike and play around Arabia Mountain. From 5:15-6:30 pm we will share in the delicious, lovingly prepared food. During the potluck, we will share any announcements, upcoming events, and recipes while continuing to socialize. So come and get some great exercise and enjoy great healing food, community and learning.

If you are interested in staying in the area a little longer, at 7:30 pm the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia will present Firefly Frolics, and chance to learn more about these fascinating insects! Discover favorite facts about these flashy little beetles and then head outside to see how many you can count and carefully catch (and release, but please no bug spray on those hands). Also, enjoy a night hike up Arabia Mountain for an amazing view of the night sky (moderate hike). The evening will end with a campfire and marshmallow roasting. For more information about this event, please visit

*Please note the EEA event is not associated with Raw Food & Beyond Atlanta’s event. We just wanted to share the information with you in case you wanted to attend.

The $5.00 meeting fee is appreciated and helps cover the cost of website dues, supplies, clean up and miscellaneous expenses!

Please RSVP for this event - but only respond "YES" if you plan to attend! Our potlucks fill up fast and once they are at capacity, the additional RSVP's roll into an automated waiting list. When someone changes their RSVP due to a schedule conflict, the person at the top of the waiting list is automatically added to the list of attendees. If your schedule changes and you cannot attend, please be considerate and change your RSVP as soon as you know, so that you are not preventing someone else from attending. Thank you!

We'll see you there!

Arabia Mountain is a granite outcropping. A brief part of the hike will be under trees, but most of the hike will be on the granite with no shade. The hike will last approx. 2 hours. There are no waterfalls, but there is a lake. The hike is not strenuous but there is a gradual continuous incline. Because of the sun and heat, you may want to take some precautions by wearing a hat and/or long sleeves, etc and bringing a lot of water to stay hydrated.
The meetup will be from 3 to 6:30pm.
