Hiking and a potluck

Greetings Raw Food and Beyond Atlanta members!

Come and join us for another fantastic hike and a juicy potluck! This month we will be hiking at the historic Roswell Mill in the heart of Roswell. On the banks of Vickery Creek, the ruins of the Roswell Manufacturing Co. Mills can be found. The mill was constructed in 1839 and 1853 and was burned by Union forces on July 7, 1864 and later rebuilt in 1853. The mill was again destroyed by fire in 1926. The waterfall was created when the creek was dammed to provide waterpower to the mill and can be viewed from the interpreted trail. A covered pedestrian bridge over the creek connects the walking trail that begins in Old Mill Park to the Chattahoochee River trail system.

Please arrive at 3:00pm as the hike will begin promptly at 3:15pm. We will hike for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours before returning to the Nature Preserve area for our potluck. Please remember to bring some water to drink during the hike.

If you do not want to hike, please feel free just to join us for the potluck starting at 5:00pm. Please let us know when you RSVP if you will be attending the hike and potluck or just the potluck.

What to bring:

• A raw, preferably organic, dish for 8-10 servings. Bring a dish that you've made yourself or picked up at Life Grocery, Sevananda or Return to Eden. Please feel free to bring simple dishes. Bowls of fruit and salads are welcome additions to our potlucks! Juicy fruit is a great way to rehydrate after a hike!
• An index card with your name and recipe (or at least the list of ingredients). Let us know what is and isn't organic.
• Your own plate, cup and eating utensils (to minimize trash and stay green).
• Serving utensils.
• Your relaxed self (and possibly a friend or two) and be ready to move, play, learn, share, and enjoy vibrant, delicious food with like-minded individuals! Well-behaved, closely supervised children are also welcome.

What to expect: From 3:15 until approximately 5:00pm we will hike and play around the Roswell Mill. From 5:00-6:00 pm we will share in the delicious, lovingly prepared food. During the potluck, we will share any announcements, upcoming events, and recipes while continuing to socialize. So come and get some great exercise and enjoy great healing food, community and learning.

The $5.00 meeting fee is appreciated and helps cover the cost of website dues, supplies, clean up and miscellaneous expenses!

Please RSVP for this event - but only respond "YES" if you plan to attend! Our potlucks fill up fast and once they are at capacity, the additional RSVP's roll into an automated waiting list. When someone changes their RSVP due to a schedule conflict, the person at the top of the waiting list is automatically added to the list of attendees. If your schedule changes and you cannot attend, please be considerate and change your RSVP as soon as you know, so that you are not preventing someone else from attending. Thank you!

We'll see you there!

Small but very fun group this time! Nice to meet some new members and reconnect
with some of the regulars. Look forward to more good times in the future.

Even though it was my first meet-up I felt very comfortable talking, asking questions and being a part of the group. Hiking was enjoyable and not too difficult. Many ideas of raw food lifestyle were confirmed, some needed to be changed and in general I have been encouraged to continue on this path.
